PotC Fanart: Gillette

When amazing stories inspire slightly expressionist fanart of questionable quality...

Coloured pencils (water soluble) and ink.

galadhir, joyful_molly, you might wish to deny any responsibility, but nevertheless this one is for you, ladies ;-)

Thank you!

This is gorgeous! And - in an impressionistic sort of way - a perfect likeness. I recognised him from the eye alone :) I really love the technique and the colours. Would it be OK if I printed it out to put on the wall beside my computer? (My study is the same colour as the green of your blog, so he would go wonderfully, and as it's not slash art, my husband is unlikely to object ;) )

Squee! *Accepts as much responsibility as I possibly can ;D*

So glad the picture finds your approval!

When it comes to likeness I'm usually rather "hit and miss", with some pictures turning out perfectly fine and others ending up as complete desasters. You've no idea how many art supplies and paper sheets I've wasted over the years ;-)

But the muses must have been with me on this one, I think. A printed out version on your wall, would make me feel rather honoured. Just in case the smaller *.jpg file doesn't lead to satisfying results, here's a link to a larger version.

My study is the same colour as the green of your blog

Whee! Then your walls must be about the same colour as my carpet! For some odd reason, my LJ's colour scheme mirrors that of my study room almost exactly. Green carpet, pink curtains, reddish furniture, a bit of grey, black and beige here and there. No idea why it turned out that way. I just fiddled with LJ until I found a combination of which I thought "Ha! At least something that looks halfway alright." The obvious similarities didn't dawn on me until much, much later ...*g*

Oh, thank you for the larger version! I have lots more walls to decorate in this house, and he'll go in a clip frame on one of them :)

I have never managed to capture any sort of likeness of anyone (or thing), so you have my awe for managing it at all, hit and miss or not!

*g* Curiously, the pinkish-brown stripe down the outside of your text area on the blog is the same colour as the woodwork and carpet of our living room, so it's not just your own study this colourscheme matches! :)

Thank you again for the picture! It really is lovely.

This is fantastic! I absolutely adore it - you can bet a print out will go on my wall this evening! :-D Thanks so much - and "Thomas" says hello!

I'm proud to take the blame for such beautiful things. This is truly lovely - you should be artsy more often! :-D

Well, in this case I'm one happy artist! A larger and therefore probably more "printer-friendly" version can be found here, btw *g*

you should be artsy more often! :-D

Trust me, I am, though not always with such happy results. It's really like I said to galadhir. Very "hit and miss" and quite experimental . Just a couple of weeks ago I tried to draw dear old Weatherby and failed badly, because the King Charles wig turned out a true nightmare ;-)

That's really lovely, especially the lips. Thanks for sharing!
Bimobimo on June 15th, 2007 06:04 am (UTC)
I'm quite fond of the lips myself, because I usually find them incredibly hard to get right ;-)

Putting that picture online was a real pleasure!

Gorgeous picture and amazing technique. It looks like a watercolor.
Bimo: Terra_incognitabimo on June 15th, 2007 06:11 am (UTC)
Glad you liked!

The water colour effect is actually quite easily achieved. Once the basic drawing is finished, all you need to do is to take a soft, well-watered brush and carefully go over the lines ;-)

Nice.
For some reason it really reminds me of that famous Goethe portrait...
