Roughly ten years ago
Seing kathyh 's latest post, I went back to check the exact date of my own ten year LJ anniversary, since I remembered Kathy and me joining at roughly the same time, 2003, sometime in Autumn.

Looks like I've missed my own anniversary by almost a month, as the day I finally succumbed to this strange new thing called journaling was September 29th. Do I feel like a dinosaur now? Well, sometimes...My hair is certainly grayer today than it was the day I uploaded my first user icon. I fell in love (and sometimes out of love) with many a tv show, shared my impressions about books, movies, art and quite a few other things. Also, I fear I must have written hundreds of more or less sensemaking comments. *g*

Over the past decade, LJ has made my online life a lot richer, more interesting. Thanks to LJ I had the privilege to meet some truly wonderful people. So here's to ten more years and to everybody who is still out there and actively posting!

Having just thanked you for congratulating me now I've nipped over to congratulate you. For some reason I always think my LJ anniversary is earlier than it actually is, which is the only reason I managed to remember this year.

LJ has made my online life a lot richer, more interesting.

Absolutely and one of its greatest pleasures has been meeting you and Cavendish ♥♥♥

I am so glad you came to lj as well! I'd have missed you terribly, in the virtual world and elsewhere, if you hadn't.

If I think of all the strange and wonderful things I would have missed out on if I hadn't succumbed to your gentle suggestions...

Aw, feel virtually hugged! :-)

Happy Anniversary, bimo!!
Do you remember your "gateway drug", so to speak, to fandom? I still remember the times of ff.net and yahoo-groups :-)

Thank you!

"Gateway drug" to fandom? Well, in my case you would probably have to go back to those ancient and legendary times when there wasn't any online fandom to speak of (simply because there wasn't any internet), and all you had were worn-out video tapes, printed fanzines, conventions, phone conversations and snail mail.

It's not that I'm that old. I was born in 1975, so theoretically I should have belonged to the very first generation of fans whose socialisation took place mostly online, fishing their fanfiction as multi part plain text files from usenet groups, using mailing list servers that would only be bought up by Yahoo years later.

However, thanks to my Dad, who is every bit as much a tv fan as I am, I was gradually introduced to fandom when I was still a kid. So I was already on the scene when people finally started to build the first fan pages and archives. My earliest fannish memories from the 1980s actually include watching a bunch of grown-ups exchanging self-recorded VHS tapes of Doctor Who and Blake's Seven. ;-)
